Another drop

1. Giving It All That I Got

Going on that stretching road
we’re taking off again
have a feeling I’ll be lucky
fate lending me a hand
Another night and another bar room
Flicking off that sweat
raising hell again together
howling at the moon

Chorus:
But I’m gonna take it
I’m gonna make it and
I’m giving it all that I got

See ya sometimes in the morning
you turn around my head
sweet dreams of love and glory
raking in that bread
Passions in me neon glowing
swinging to that tune
have a hunch that someone’s smiling
cut the baggage loose

Chorus

See the way that you dance at night time
makes me wanna laugh
down a dozen maybe forty, party in the gaff
I love the way that I feel it, baby
just like Amsterdam
no matter what that you said before me
some say I’m damned

Chorus

Dream I’ll make it in the USA
getting high on it all
there’s no use in regrets or crying
that’s a load of balls
I’m gonna play it like
I’ve always done in the walk of life
don’t wanna hear about the weather
or your bleeding strife

Chorus

2. The Rambles of Spring

There´s a piercing wintry breeze
Blowing through the budding trees
And I button up my coat to keep me warm
But the days are on the mend
And I´m on the road again
With my fiddle snuggled close beneath my arm

Chorus:
I´ve a fine, felt hat
And a strong pair of brogues
I have rosin in my pocket for my bow
O my fiddle strings are new
And I´ve learned a tune or two
So, I´m well prepared to ramble and must go

I´m as happy as a king
When I catch a breath of spring
And the grass is turning green as winter ends
And the geese are on the wing
And the thrushes start to sing
And I´m headed down the road to see my friends

Chorus

I have friends in every town
As I wander up and down
Making music at the markets and the fairs
Through the donkeys and the creels
And the farmers making deals
And the yellow headed tinkers selling wares

Chorus

Here´s a health to one and all
To the big and to the small
To the rich and poor alike and foe and friends
And when I return again
May our foes have turned to friends
And may peace and joy be with you until then

Chorus

3. Donegal Danny

I remember the night that he came in
From the wintry cold and damp
A giant of a man in an oilskin coat
And the bundle that told he was a tramp
He stood at the bar and he called a pint
Then turned and gazed at the fire
On a night like this to be safe and dry
Is my one and only desire

Chorus:
So here´s to those that are dead and gone
The friends that I loved dear
And here´s to you then I´ll bid you adieu
Saying Donegal Danny´s been here me boys
Donegal Danny´s been here

Then in a voice that was hushed and low
He said: Listen I´ll tell you a tale
How a man of the sea became a man of the roads
And never more will set sail
I´ve fished out of Howth and Killybegs
Ardglass and Baltimore
But the cruel sea has beaten me
And I´ll end my days on the shore

Chorus

One fateful night in the wind and the rain
We set sail from Killybegs town
There were five of us from sweet Donegal
And one from County Down
We were fishermen who worked the sea
And never counted the cost
But I never thought ere that night was done
That my fine friends would all be lost

Chorus

Then the storm it broke and drove the boat
To the rocks about ten miles from shore
As we fought the tide we hoped inside
To see our homes once more
Then we struck a rock and holed the bow
And all of us knew that she´d go down
So we jumped right into the icy sea
And prayed to God we wouldn´t drown

Chorus

But the raging sea was rising still
As we struck out for the land
And she fought with all her cruelty
To claim that gallant band
By St John´s Point in the early dawn
I dragged myself on the shore
And I cursed the sea for what she´d done
And vowed to sail her never more

Chorus

Ever since that night I´ve been on the road
Travelling and trying to forget
That awful night I lost all my friends
I see their faces yet
And often at night when the sea is high
And the rain is tearing at my skin
I hear the cries of drowning men
Floating over on the wind

Chorus

5. Nancy Whiskey

As I went down through Glasgow city
Just to see what I might find
What should I see but Nancy Whiskey
A playful twinkle in her eye

Chorus:
Whiskey, Whiskey, Nancy Whiskey
Whiskey, Whiskey, Nancy Oh

I bought her, I drank her, I had another
Ran out of money, so I had to steal
She ran me ragged, Nancy Whiskey
For seven years, a rollin´ wheel

Chorus

As I awoke to slake my thirst
As I tried crawling from my bed
I fell down flat, I could not stagger
Nancy had me by the legs

Chorus

Come on landlandy, what´s the owing
Tell me what there is to pay
Fifteen shillings is the reckoning
Now pay me quickly and go away

Chorus

Come on you boys young and foolish
listen all wherever you be
Beware of whiskey, Nancy whiskey
she’ll ruin you like she ruined me

Chorus

6. Some Say the Divil Is Dead

Chorus:
Some say the divil is dead, the divil is dead, the divil is dead.
Some say the divil is dead and berried in Killarney
More say he rose again, more say he rose again
More say he rose again and joined the British army

Feed the pigs and milk the cows, and milk the cows and milk the cows,
Feed the pigs and milk the cows early in the morning
Rise your leg up Paddy dear, Paddy dear in over here
Rise your leg up Paddy dear, it’s time to stop your yawning

Chorus:

Katie she is tall and thin, she´s tall and thin, and tall and thin,
Katie she is tall and thin, she likes her drops of brandy.
Drinks it in the bed each night, drinks it in the bed each night,
Drinks it in the bed each night, it makes her nice and randy

Chorus:

My young man is six foot tall, he’s six foot tall, he’ six foot tall
My young man is six foot tall, he likes his sugar candy
Goes to bed at 6 o’clock, goes to bed at 6 o’clock
Goes to bed at 6 o’clock, he’s lazy, fat and randy

Chorus:

The wife she has a hairy thing, a hairy thing, a hairy thing,
The wife she has a hairy thing, she showed it to me on Sunday
She bought it in the furrier shop, she bought it in the furrier shop
She bought it in the furrier shop, it’s going back on Monday

Chorus:

7. Yarmouth Town

In Yarmouth town there lived a man
He had a little tavern down by the strand
And the landlord had a daughter fair
Pretty little girl with golden hair

Chorus:
Won´t you come down
Won´t you come down
Won´t you come down to Yarmouth town

At night there came a sailor man
He asked the daughter for her hand
Why should I marry you she said
When I have all I want without being wed

Chorus

But if with me you´d like to linger
I´ll tie some string all around my finger
As you pass by, pull on my string
I´ll come down and let you right in

Chorus

At closing time the sailor man
He’s gone to the tavern down by the strand
And as he passes by, he pulls on the string
And she came down and let him right in

Chorus

Well, the sailor stayed the whole night through
and early in the morning went back to his crew
then he told them about the maiden fair
the pretty little girl with the golden hair

Chorus

Well, the news it quickly got around
and the very next night in Yarmouth Town
there was fifteen sailors pulling on the string
she came down and she let them all in

Chorus

Now all of you to Yarmouth go
If ya see a pretty girl with her hair hanging low
All ya gotta do is pull on the string
And she´ll come down and let you all in

Chorus

8. The Galtee Mountain Boy

I joined the Flying Column in nineteen and sixteen
In Cork with Sean Moylan, in Tipperary with Dan Breen
Arrested by Free Staters and sentenced for to die
Farewell to Tipperary, said the Galtee Mountain Boy

We went across the valleys and over hilltops green
Where we met with Dinny Lacy, Sean Hogan and Dan Breen
Sean Moylan and his gallant men that kept the flag flying high
Farewell to Tipperary, said the Galtee mountain boy

We tracked the Dublin Mountains; we were rebels on the run
Though hunted night and morning, we were outlaws but free men
We tracked the Wicklow Mountains as the sun was shining high
Farewell to Tipperary, said the Galtee mountain boy

I bid farewell to old Clonmel that never more will see
And through the Galtee mountains that oft times sheltered me
The men who fought for liberty and who died without a sigh
May their cause be ne´er forgotten, said the Galtee Mountain Boy

10. I´ve Waited As Long As I Can

I´ve waited for you and I´ve always been true
But this waiting no longer I can stand
I know you´ve had time dear to make up your mind
I´ve waited as long as I can

Chorus:
I´m waiting to hear you say you love me
And long for the day you take my hand
I asked again last night for your love so divine
I´ve waited as long as I can

Chorus

Done all I can do said all I can say
Oh why can´t I make you understand
I wanted you for mine but I´m wasting my time
I´ve waited as long as I can

Chorus

Now I´ll just say goodbye the tears fall from my eyes
For you have made it plain that I can´t win
No one will ever know the pain that I´ve been through
I´ve waited as long as I can

Chorus

11. Hand Me Down My Bible

Chorus:
Oh Oh Glorio,
Now I´m the Lord´s disciple
Oh Oh Glorio,
Now Hand me down My Bible

I like my liquor and my livin´ hard
May the lord save my soul
My salvation was a turn of the card
My hearts as black as coal

But everybody´s got the right to go wrong
Everybody´s got to sing my song
Everybody´s got the right to go wrong
Sing my song, sing my song

Chorus

I don´t give a damn for any man
As all the world can see
Time has come to make a stand
Well, to shine your light on me

Come on people, let your life begin
Come on now let the sun shine in
Come on people let your life begin
Let it in, let it in

Chorus

12. Whiskey in the Jar

As I was going over, the far famed Kerry mountains,
I met with captain Farrell and his money he was counting,
I first produced my pistol, and then produced my rapier,
saying stand and deliver for you are a bold deciever.

Chorus:
Musha ring with a do, dum a da,

whack fol the daddy o,
whack fol the daddy o
there’s whiskey in the jar

I counted out his money, and it made a pretty penny,
I put it in my pocket and I took it home to Jenny,
she sighed and she swore, she never would decieve me,
but the devil take the women, they never can be easy.

Chorus

I went into my chamber for to take a slumber,
I dreamed of gold and jewels, and sure it was no wonder,
but Jenny drew my charges and she filled them up with water,
and sent for captain to be ready for the slaughter.

Chorus

Now some take delight in the carriages a rolling,
others take delight in the hurling and the bowling,
but I take delight in the juice of the barley,
and courting pretty fair maids till the morning bright and early.

Chorus

If anyone can aid me tis me brother in the army,
if I can find his station, in Cork or in Killarney,
and if he´ll go with me we´ll go roving in Kilkenny,
and I´m sure he´ll treat me better than darling sporting Jenny.

Chorus

13. The Mermaid

´Twas Friday morn when we set sail
And we had not got far from land
When the Captain, he spied a lovely mermaid
With a comb and a glass in her hand

Chorus
Oh the ocean waves may roll
And the stormy winds may blow
While we poor sailors go skipping to the top
And the land lubbers lay down below, below, below
And the land lubbers lay down below

Then up spoke the Captain of our gallant ship
And a jolly old Captain was he
"I have a wife in Salem town
But tonight a widow she will be."

Chorus

Then up spoke the Cook of our gallant ship
And a greasy old Cook was he
"I care more for my kettles and my pots
Than I do for the roaring of the sea."

Chorus

Then up spoke the Cabin-boy of our gallant ship
And a dirty little brat was he
"I have friends in Boston town
That don´t care a ha´ penny for me."

Chorus

Then three times ´round went our gallant ship
And three times ´round went she
And the third time that she went ´round
She sank to the bottom of the sea

Chorus

14. England’s Motorway

Come my little son and I will tell you what we’ll do
Undress yourself and get into your bed, and a tale I’ll tell to you
It’s all about your daddy, he’s a man you seldom see
For he’s had to roam far away from home, away from you and me

Chorus:
But remember laddie he’s still your dad
Though he’s workind far away
In the cold and the heat, all the hours of the week
On England’s Motorway

To buy your shoes your daddy laid a length of railway track
He built a hydro-dam to put the clothes upon your back.
This motor highway buys the food though the wages soon are spent
But we need the money your daddy earns, for to pay the rent.

Chorus

When you fall and hurt yourself and get up feeling bad
There is no use to cry and go a’running for your dad
For the only time since you were born that he’s had to spend with you
He was out of a job and he hadn’t a bob*, signing on the brew**

Chorus

* Bob= 1 old shilling. ** Brew=coruption of the word "Bureau" another word for Labour Exchange.

17. The Wild Rover

I´ve been a wild rover for manys a year
and I´ve spent all me money on whiskey and beer
but I´m returning with gold in great store
and I never will play the wild rover now more
Chorus:
And it´s no, nay, never
no nay never no more
will I play the wild rover
no never no more

I went in to an ale house I used to frequent
I told the landlady my money was spent
I asked her for credit she answered me nay
such a custom as yours I can have any day

Chorus

I took up from my pocket ten sovereigns bright
and the landlady´s eyes opened wide with delight
She said I have whiskey and wines of the best,
and the words that I spoke of were only in jest

Chorus

I´ll go home to my parents, confess what I’ve done
and I´ll ask them to pardon their prodigal son
And when they´ve caressed me as oftimes before
I never will play the wild rover no more

Chorus

19. The Mountain Dew

Let the grasses grow and the waters flow in a free and easy way
But give me enough of the rare old stuff that´s made near Galway Bay
Come gangers all from Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim too
Oh, we´ll give ´em a slip and we´ll take a sip of the rare old mountain dew

Chorus:
Hi-the-diddley-I-dill-dum, diddley-doodle-I-dill-um, diddley- doo-ri-diddley-di-day
Hi-the-diddley-I-dill-um, diddley-doo-dill-I-dill-um, diddley- doo-ri-diddley-di-day

There´s a neat little still at the foot of the hill, where the smoke curls up to the sky
By a whiff of the smell you can plainly tell, that there´s poitín, boys, close by
For it fills the air with a perfume rare, and betwixt both me and you
As home we roll, we can drink a bowl, or a bucketful of mountain dew

Chorus

Now learned men as use the pen, have writ the praises high
Of the sweet poitín from Ireland green, distilled from wheat and rye
Away with yer pills, it´ll cure all ills, be ye Pagan, Christian or Jew
So take off your coat and grease your throat with a bucketful of mountain dew

Chorus
